Pharmaceutical Microbiology is an applied branch of Microbiology. It involves the study of microorganisms associated with the manufacture of pharmaceuticals Some of the most important and widespread uses of microorganisms in the pharmaceutical sciences are the production of antibiotics and vaccines and the use of microorganisms in the recombinant DNA industry. Pharmaceutical microbiology is included in syllabus of second year B.Pharm. The laboratory is dedicated for conducting pharmaceutical microbiology practicals such as preparation of bacterial growth media such as nutrient broth and agar media, isolation and observation of bacteria, assay of antibiotics etc. Laboratory is equipped with autoclave, hot air oven, incubator, laminar air flow, microscope, zone reader, digital colony counter, refrigerator etc. Standard operating procedures are in place for all the equipments. Gas connection is provided in the laboratory and cylinder is kept outside the laboratory ensuring safety of students. Fire extinguisher is also placed in the laboratory.
